    Job Description

Communities In Schools works directly inside schools, building relationships and coordinating services that empower students to succeed inside and outside the classroom. Affiliated with a national organization founded more than 40 years ago, Communities In Schools is the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization. Now in 26 states, CIS helps students in elementary, middle school, and high school stay in school and achieve academically and throughout their lives. We bring resources, services, parents, and volunteers together to meet the needs of students by overcoming barriers to success. In Nevada, CIS is a single non-profit with three dependent affiliates serving 67,000 students at 63 sites across the state. We’ve been around since 1992; today we have over 100 employees and an annual budget of nearly $5 million. Our mission: To surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life, and to grow quickly. The Opportunity We are seeking an innovative and entrepreneurial Chief Executive Officer who will actively represent CIS of Nevada in the community on behalf of our students. An authentic, service-oriented storyteller. Someone who is passionate about our mission to radically improve the ways kids live, learn, and achieve success in school and in their communities. You must be energized by others, fueled by outward-facing interactions, and be able to “work the room” in an effective and dynamic way. Key Capabilities to be successful in this role: • Ability to communicate and deliver messages clearly: you attract and inspire others through your verbal, written, and presentation skills • Strong collaboration and negotiation skills: you can leverage internal, external relationships and partnerships to achieve win-win outcomes • Big-picture and systems thinking: you must be able to understand the role CIS plays within the broader education and anti-poverty systems and policies, and you take a holistic and unrelenting approach to your work • Self-confidence, authenticity, high integrity and perseverance that inspires trust from all stakeholders Must-have experience and education: • Bachelor’s degree with ten (10) or more years of progressive experience at a senior leadership level in a complex nonprofit or for-profit organization • Leadership of larger, high-performing teams who are geographically dispersed to achieve results autonomously • Ability to develop sound short and long-term business strategies and implement tactically to move the organization forward • Strong financial accountability including development and management of large budgets, expense control measures and experience in growing revenues rapidly • A proven history of working effectively with key stakeholders including board of directors, legislators, government officials, education leaders and/or corporate leaders Location Las Vegas, Nevada!
